Well it is about time, right?? Despite having gone from a family of 3 kids to a family of 4 kids, somehow this aspect of my blog missed my notice. Time to remedy that I would say!!! Yes. I have 4 kids now. FOUR!!! These adorable sweet peas are the light of my life…oh, and my husband’s too in case you were wondering. Please allow me a mommy moment to boast and brag about each adorable creature here, okiedokie??
Hadley, the studly blond with the glasses, is our oldest. He is a funny little spark plug. He has more energy than necessary for any one human being, and can’t be slowed down. How do I know when he is sick?? A fever? Cough? Runny nose? No. If he lays on the couch watching tv willingly then I know something is not well. He plays tennis, soccer, and loves to throw the football around. He also seems to adore anything on wheels…his bike, his rollerblades, skateboard, or dipstick. He also likes all things aquatic, including surfing, boogie boarding, skim boarding…whatever. He tends to be the class clown (no clue where he gets that) and has a tough time pay attention but man, he is a loving little man.
Chase is my older daughter and she is such a love bug. She can’t get enough hugging, kissing or tickling. My social butterfly, she is quick to play with others and makes friends with pretty much everyone. She eats like a truck driver but runs like a marathoner. She too loves the water but her affection for sports is more limited. I am quite pleased to say, however, she is finally finding some joy in soccer which is a shock because the last 3 years she has refused to play citing, “I don’t want to be sweaty!!” She takes ballet and jazz, and loves all things girlie including makeup and jewelry. She has some sass, but it tends to get overlooked because of the hugs that accompany it.
Kincaid is our younger boy and man, this kid is a crazy little powerhouse. He is my imaginative and creative child. He still (2 years now) has his best friends Joshua and Ebon, who are both invisible, but he has some real friends too, which is reassuring. He loves to makeup stories, laugh, and snuggle. He is the one who makes a “bad choice” and will flutter his impossibly long dark eyelashes and say, “I wuv you mommy” and get away with it. He is just starting with tennis and boogie boarding, and loves to ride his bike because then his spy powers turn on and he can catch bad guys. If you need a laugh, give Kincaid about 2 minutes and the kid will deliver.
Elis Rey is the newest Sweet family member. We traveled to Henan, China in October of 2011 and met her. The fall into love was instantaneous and complete; she is an amazing addition to our home. She is independent and busy. She refuses to walk anywhere and prefers to run. Often her older siblings end up following her instead of the other way around, and she is always willing to leap into something new. She loves to swim in the pool, the beach or the tub, has the sweetest dimples, and loves to dance – particularly to Spanish music, which is fascinating because, of course, she is Chinese. Her laugh is full bellied and infectious and her older brothers and sister totally adore her. They ask constantly when we can get another buddy from China…I just wink and look at Ken, who looks like he may pass out at any moment.
Our lives are full. The extent of our busy-ness is well, scary. My kids are incredibly hungry. Food? Sure – they consume more than a group of truck drivers at a Denny’s on Saturday morning. But really, they are hungry for life. For adventure, fun, love, and each other. And man…I am the most content woman in the world. Will there be more kids?? I truly don’t know. Part of me thinks we are done. Part of me hopes otherwise. The truth is we go day by day, trusting each other, and the Lord who guides us, as we have fun and live this life together.
